Certified Silver Coins | Graded & Slabbed

Certified Silver Coins for Serious Collectors and Investors

Silver graded coins represent the gold standard of numismatic collecting — coins that have been professionally authenticated, graded on a standardized condition scale, and sealed in tamper-evident holders (slabs) to preserve their state indefinitely. At The Banknote Society, our silver graded coins collection brings together certified British India and Indian Republic silver issues, giving collectors and investors a trusted source for coins whose authenticity and condition are never in question.

What Does "Graded" Mean?

Coin grading is the process by which a coin's physical condition is evaluated by a recognized grading authority and assigned a numeric grade on the internationally accepted 1–70 Sheldon Scale. Grades typically fall into categories such as:

  • MS (Mint State) 60–70 – Uncirculated coins with no wear, ranging from baseline (MS60) to flawless (MS70)
  • AU (About Uncirculated) 50–58 – Coins with only the slightest trace of wear
  • XF/EF (Extremely Fine) 40–45 – Well-preserved coins with light circulation wear
  • VF (Very Fine) 20–35 – Moderate wear, all major design details clear
  • F (Fine) and below – Circulated coins with visible wear, still collectible for rarity

Once graded, each coin is sealed in a protective slab along with a certification label showing its grade, coin details, and a unique certification number that can be verified online. This process locks in the coin's condition permanently, protecting it from further wear, environmental damage, and disputes over authenticity.

Why Buy Graded Silver Coins Instead of Raw (Ungraded) Coins?

  1. Authenticity guarantee – Grading eliminates the risk of counterfeit or altered coins entering your collection.
  2. Objective condition assessment – A third-party grade removes guesswork and seller bias from condition claims.
  3. Long-term preservation – Slabs protect coins from oxidation, fingerprints, and physical damage.
  4. Investment liquidity – Graded coins are easier to value, insure, and resell, since buyers trust the certified grade.
  5. Collector confidence – For high-value or rare silver issues, grading is often the deciding factor between a coin being considered "collector-grade" or not.
